I’m a busy person. The summer I moved my family across the country, I flew from New Jersey to Chicago twice and back. It was a lot of fun, but it also put a strain on our time. The flights were not inexpensive. My flight from Newark to Chicago was $250. My flight back from Chicago to Newark was exactly $20. It was a lot of money.
I don’t fly as often as I used to, especially when I’m not making the trip from home. I know this because I was once a frequent flyer and flew two times to Chicago, which at $250 each was a total of $1,600 in a single year.
This is not a surprising revelation at all but it is something I have to take into account when I fly. When I was in college, my parents took me on a plane from New York to Chicago every weekend for a month of the year. I spent my summers commuting. I spent lots of weekends at the beach. But of course the airlines did not have my business. But that’s changed recently though, because I fly a lot more now and I do it almost exclusively to Chicago.
I have a great idea for a summer getaway I can’t wait to take. The idea is to take my family on a full-fledged vacation to Chicago from Newark. We’d spend a week there, then I’d take a two week trip to Hawaii, then my parents would go out to their cabin in New York, and I’d see my parents at the airport. Then we’d have a week in Los Angeles. It would be kind of a whirlwind trip.
I could see this working, and I could see my family visiting Chicago and going to Chicago City Hall. But the problem I have is that I dont have enough time to do all of those things. I am going to need a little bit of a vacation from my construction business to do all of these things, so I am going to end up in a hotel on the West Side of Chicago. I am also going to have to do all of those things while I am working on my construction site.
I think it’s safe to say that most construction workers are pretty dedicated, and I wouldn’t think any of them would want to put the hours of their job on hold to come to Chicago. But I think it’s worth mentioning that the travel costs for a trip to Chicago in 2014 are pretty high.
We should all be thinking about how we can make our life a little more productive outside of work. If we are going to take time off from work, we need to be able to work it in.
I think I can speak to this as I have a job in a huge construction company but do not work in construction. My job is mostly administrative but not construction related. I am an expert in construction site safety, and I have to admit that I don’t think I have the same amount of hours that I did when I was working in construction.
I think there are a few ways to make that happen. One way is by taking a day off every few weeks, so you could go have lunch at the café next to your office. Another is by finding an online construction management site like Construction.com or Construction.com for your job. I work for a company that does construction management for construction companies, so I often have to work online.
The other way is by making a concerted effort to get outside to some place where you can make some time for yourself. I live in the city, and I am lucky enough to have a place close to my office and a place with wifi. I don’t take these days off, but instead make it a point to go to the places that I normally would go, even if I have to spend time in different areas of the city.
